About me

Leigh Giles-Brown is a multi-faceted writer. As an educator, healthcare professional, peace-builder, songwriter, and dedicated storyteller, her journey bridges healthcare clinics, classrooms, and communities. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social studies secondary education, a master’s degree in public affairs, and a Juris Doctorate. After earning these degrees and working as a teacher and public servant, she went back to school and earned an associate’s degree in diagnostic medical sonography. She now serves as program director for two sonography associate degree programs at a vibrant community college.

Leigh has been a passionate advocate for social-emotional learning and peace education for more than a decade. She founded and led the nonprofit Races for Peace, developing a “Peace is Possible” literary workshop to empower elementary school children to explore their own concepts of peace and promote peace in their communities. Her storytelling is grounded in real-world leadership, educational theory, and a deep belief that kindness, curiosity, and peace can change young lives.

Having raised three busy sons and currently living with her husband and two mischievous pups, Leigh has had her share of muddy adventures and big-hearted lessons. Her children’s books draw on her variety of experiences as a mother, advocate, teacher, and peace-builder to encourage empathy, resilience, and self-regulation. Her playful stories and practical SEL tools invite children, families, and classrooms to grow, connect, and explore alongside loving farmyard friends (some of whom adore mud puddles).
